New Arrivals 4/14/2015 to 4/27/2015

by Alexander "Ankylosaurus" Smith

The long-awaited Dominion: Adventures is here! This expansion spices up Dominion with more kingdoms, events, duration cards and reserve cards. Instead of just discarding your cards as you use them, why not keep them on your tavern mat for a continuous effect or to use on a future turn? You can even power those cards up as you go, leading to new and exciting interactions and tough new decisions. Gear up with Dominion: Adventures!

Ascension: Dawn of Champions is the latest installment to the popular, ever-expanding deckbuilding game, Ascension. This standalone expansion works well on its own, but is also great as an addition to previous sets. Add faction champions as well as multifaction monsters and constructs to change up your game!

Playing Juxtabo is simple enough. All you have to do is stack chips by matching the top color of a stack with one of the colors on a chip and placing it down so the colors touch. If you can match the color pattern on your cards, you'll get points! Once you start playing though, you'll find that the ever-shifting colors in this game for 1-4 players can be quite challenging to keep up with.

Three Little Piggies is a fun, new puzzle game that is great for preschoolers. Using only three pieces, you'll have to place fields, houses and piggies onto the board. Once you've got the hang of it, try night mode where you'll have to get the piggies into their houses and away from the wolf. Use your logic skills to keep your piggies safe!

In Spin-a-Slice Pizza Matching Game, you'll be slinging slices of pizza into a wooden crust and trying to build the perfect pie before your opponent can! With simple spinner mechanics to add, lose or steal slices for your pie, this game is easy to jump in and play.

Super Tooth is a dinosaur card game where you'll try to collect sets of herbivores and avoid predators. Easy to learn and fun to play, this is a game that is sure to make you roar!

Have you ever wanted to make your own puzzles? With Mindware's Make Your Own Puzzle, you can! Making your own puzzle is as simple as taking a photograph, mounting it on a foam board, and punching it out using pre-made jigsaw pieces! Make sharing photos with your friends even more fun with this cool puzzle maker.

Back in stock this week is the 2014 Spiel des Jahres winner, Camel Up, and an at least temporary return of the super thematic and popular, winter zombie survival game, Dead of Winter. We've had a lot of people asking when we'd get these game back in, and now we have!

New Arrivals 4/7/2015 to 4/13/2015

by Alexander "the Hun" Smith

Attila is a quick two player puzzle game based on the "Knight's Tour" chess puzzles. On your turn, you will move one of your pieces in an L-shape to an open space, and place a scorched earth token on another empty space. If you can block off all moves for each of your opponent's three pieces, you win! Attila takes the simple mechanic of moving a knight in chess and turns it into a great two player strategy game.

Another chess-themed game we've received recently is All Queens
Chess. Move your six queens on a 5x5 board and try to get four in a row! In this game, Queens don't take pieces, but rather are used to move into position and block off your opponent. A mix between chess and Connect Four, All Queens Chess is another great example of taking chess strategy and making it into a great, fast two player game.

You'll have to be sneaky to score points in Wink. Whenever another player moves their pawn to a tile that matches a card in your hand, secretly wink at them to gain points. Be careful though, if other players catch you winking first, you get to steal their points. This game can play up to eight players, so you'll have to keep an eye out in this fun family party game!

Scuttle around the table with Crab Stack! In Crab Stack, you'll move your family of nine crabs around a board, hopping on the backs of others and trying not to get swept away by the current. Hop on the backs of other crabs to climb higher, because the more crabs you have trapped will mean fewer moves for you to make. This crab stacking game feels like Battle Sheep, another favorite of ours, but taken to a whole new dimension of fun.

Merchants & Marauders: Seas of Glory brings eleven new modules to spice up your game of trade and plunder on the Caribbean. New weapons, NPC upgrades, weather, locations, special treasure ships and more await in this new expansion.

Star Realms: Gambits adds special new Gambit cards which offer a hidden bonus effect that will shake up this galactic conflict deckbuilding game. Also new are scenarios that you can play solitaire or with friends. See if you and your friends can take on the Pirates of the Dark Star or Nemesis Beast with this cool new game mode!

Now back in stock at the store are Camel Up, Euphoria, Enigma and Equilibrio. The wildly popular 2014 Spiel des Jahres winner Camel Up is finally back. Camel racing has never been so much fun! Euphoria is an amazing dystopian worker-placement game where dice are your workers. You'll want smart workers, but if they're too competent, they'll run away. Enigma is another smart game where you'll solve puzzles and complete circuits to score points. Finally, Equilibrio is a four-in-one block puzzle where you'll arrange blocks to solve a series of challenges.

We are super excited for Tabletop Day this year at Labyrinth! This year, we're holding a "Carnival of Games", featuring all sorts of awesome activities for the whole family. You can check out the schedule here.

AND PRIZES. Also, there are prizes. Some super cool prizes that we are giving away and not at all keeping for ourselves because we are nice people who like our customers even though Judy really wants the Ticket to Ride 10th Anniversary set because there are giraffes on some of the train cars and HOW COOL IS THAT! OMG! I mean, check this stuff out:

A HUGE thanks to Asmodee who decided to sponsor our event, and provide us with this wonderful bounty of goodness!

So, how might one acquire such prizes, you ask? Here's how:

Prizes are going to be sorted into similar bundles and we'll be holding drawings for each bundle. That way you can place your tickets into drawings for the prizes you want the most. You'll be able to get a ticket the following ways:

1) Register for the event on our Eventbrite page by 6pm Friday, 4/10/15. You do not have to regsiter to come, but it will get you an extra ticket!

2) Find Judy (the redhead) and show her that you like Labyrinth on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.

3) Fill out a "sign up for our newsletter" slip and hand it to Judy (you know, the redhead?)

4) Post a picture of yourself having fun to Instagram with #LabyrinthDC and show it to Judy (who will at this point still continue to be a redhead). There's no limit how many pictures you can post for tickets. Blow up your Instagram feed with board game awesomeness!

5) Play a demo game! That's what you're here for, after all. Games! The kind person running the demo game will give you a ticket. There's no limit - play as many demos as you can!

6) Register for and play one of the RPG games. You can find D&D here, and Forsooth here. You will get the ticket from the GM when you start the game.

7) Check out and return a demo game to Justin (the guy with a beard). This option is only as space permits; you will need a free table at which to play.

8) Buy something! You'll earn one ticket for every $10 (pre-tax) of your purchase during the day on Saturday, April 11, as a thank-you for supporting your friendly local game store!

9) Play a carnival game! We'll have some fun dexterity games set up outside, including the Dragonfury game from the last Magic: the Gathering Prerelease!

10) Additional tickets are available for purchase from any Labyrinth staff member for $2/ea. Cash only, friend. All of the proceeds from additional ticket sales will go towards purchasing games for teachers and classrooms at local schools.

Different demo tables might also have their own special giveaway promos (for example, you can get some Steve Jackson Games goodies from their demo table and Star Wars X-Wing promos a the X-Wing demo table). Additionally, there are some promos that will be available with purchase of certain products - like the Evolution promos, which are available with the purchase a copy of Evolution while supplies last. Look for the signs throughout the store that will inform you of anything special!

We'll draw winners in the evening, around 5 to 5:30pm. You will not have to be present! We'll call you; so make sure you put your phone number on your ticket. Please write legibly!

New Arrivals 3/31/2015 to 4/6/2015

by Alexander "Kraft Tow Truck" Smith

How much do you know about animals all around the world? See for yourself in game designer Friedman Friese's Fauna! Players will have to guess the habitats of various animals as well as their weight, tail length, and more. If your guess is right, you'll score points! If you're wrong, you'll have fewer opportunities in the next round to guess. Fauna is a superb game for anyone interested in learning more about all their favorite animals.

Babylon is an extremely fast two player strategy game that only uses a set of twelve colored tablets. You may place a stack on top of another stack of the same size, or that share the same color top tablet. When you are unable to make a move, you lose! Babylon is a game that is very quick to pick up, but extremely satisfying to play over and over.

Dinosaur Escape is the newest cooperative boardgame for kids by Peacable Kingdom. In this game, you and your friends must escape the island before the volcano erupts! Players take turns moving dinosaur figures around the board and checking under ferns to find a token matching one of the dinosaurs in that area. Be careful, the T-Rex token scares all dinosaurs back to the start and each time you roll a volcano, you'll add another piece to the 3D volcano and be closer to its eruption.

Shark Bait is a wonderful hands-on game for kids three and up. Roll the die and feed your bait pieces to the shark and be the first to get rid of all your pieces. Sometimes you'll even need to reach in past those pearly white zipper teeth and grab certain pieces back, so watch out!

I Go! is a game where you must be the first to say that your hand is the best by making runs of numbers in one or two colors, matching a displayed card or having the lowest value cards. When you think your hand can beat everyone else, yell, "I go!" and see if you were right. Other players can use your cards to make their runs, so you'll have to watch what other people are building towards.

Want to turn a macaroni box into a tow truck? Or a can of chips into a helicopter? The Maker Studio sets by ThinkFun are a great way to add gears, winches, and propellers to everyday objects and turn them into something new! Each set adds new pieces to work with and you can use them together to make even more things.

Learn about ciphers, invisible messages and hidden codes in the Secret Decoder Deluxe Activity Set. With tons of activities and everything you need to learn how to crack basic codes, you'll solve problems and maybe even make a few for your friends to solve.

Also out this week are new expansions for Star Trek Attack Wing, Android: Netrunner and Warhammer 40,000: Conquest. Newly released for Star Trek Attack Wing are the I.S.S. Enterprise, Gornarus and Reklar. The Valley is the first datapack of the SanSan cycle, beginning the fourth cycle of Android: Netrunner Expansions. The Threat Beyond is the newest War Pack for Conquest, adding a new Inquisitor Warlord for the Astra Militarum faction as well as his personal squad and seventeen new cards.

New Arrivals 3/24 to 3/30/15

by Alexander "Special Reserve" Smith

Brew Crafters has been a game that we've been waiting for a long time, and it's finally here. Local game designer Ben Rosset playtested this micro brew game in our store and shared this Agricola-esque craft brewing game with interested gamers. It is a slightly complex, worker placement game in which each player is tasked with building their own successful craft brewery. Like beer? Like games? This is the game for you!

Also available is Brew Crafters: the Travel Card Game, a portable game of hiring workers, installing equipment and brewing to gain reputation!

The long awaited Star Wars Armada miniatures game has arrived! Taking cues from the popular Star Wars X-Wing, Armada scales the fight to allow fleets of Capital class ships alongside squadrons of fighters. While you may notice some similarities to the dogfights of X-Wing, new mechanics such as the maneuver tool represent maneuverability at different speeds much better.

Another long awaited game, The Enchanted Tower won the Kinderspiele des Jahres (Kids' game of the year in Germany) in 2013, and it has finally reached the U.S. Find the hidden key and free the princess in The Enchanted Tower, a game for 2-4 kids. One player takes on the role of the evil sorcerer who hides the key to the tower under one of sixteen different spaces while the other players roll dice to determine how far both the hero and the sorcerer move around the board.

Dragons of Tarkir is the newest expansion for the popular Magic: the Gathering trading card game. In an alternate timeline where Dragonlords rule the plane of Tarkir rather than the non-dragon Khans from Khans of Tarkir. With new and returning mechanics, loads of new ways to play and a plethora of dragons that will leave you awe-struck, the new Dragons of Tarkir cards are a blast to play with.

We have some new Pokémon goodies in the form of the Legends of Kalos and Team Plasma tins! With cool EX Pokémon such as Yveltal EX, Xerneas EX, Deoxys EX and Thundurus EX, these tins are sure to power up your decks or be a jewel in your collection.

Back in stock this week is Euphoria, the die-based worker placement game where you have to make sure that your workers don't escape your futuristic dystopia.
